Reinventing the Internship: New Media Trainers

The Connected Generation Podcast: Reinventing the Internship: New Media Trainers, Episode 71Reach Group Podcast1.jpg

In the second installment of our Reinventing the Internship series, we discuss the possibility of creating a cohort group of interns that we call the “new media trainers.”

Many companies are scrambling to keep up on all the new technologies and media on the Web. Instead of depending on your IT group or hiring outside consultants to get you up to speed, what would it look like if you hired a group of tech-savvy individuals that already uses these tools in their daily lives? We suggest that you bring in a fresh batch of hires who are already trained in the technologies that you want to learn and give them the opportunity to teach and consult internally within your organization.

In order to create the right team, you’ll have to change your hiring criteria to reflect the type of skill-set that you’re looking for (e.g. currently have your own blog, experience using wikis, etc). Once you’ve gathered your team, you will have a versatile group that can create curriculum around the new technologies and execute projects such as mentoring executives, teaching a department of employees or collaborating with a marketing team to create a campaign.
