We ‘The (Young) People’

At Reach Group we pride ourselves on being a little unorthodox in how we work and do research. We have a ton of fun and spend a large part of our time doing life with the people that we want to learn from. Forget traditional focus groups and sterile office environments. We have candid conversations and in-context experiences that add dimension to our research and help us create more effective strategies.

This past year been especially fun as I’ve had the opportunity to introduce Lisa and Cheri to my friends and tap into my network to gather insights around the topics that we’re studying. Like many connected people my age, I have a large network of relationships (primarily those in their late teens and 20s) across the country and globe, which provides a rich source of relevant information—not to mention fun and entertainment.

Unfortunately, I’ve found that most of the professionals I talk to in the more traditional business world have piles of reports and research on people my age—the ‘Gen Yers’, ‘Millenials’, ‘Echo Boomers’, ‘Internet Generation,’ etc.—but they don’t seem to actually spend time with the people they’re wanting to learn from outside the work setting.

My fear is that people are getting the stats without the soul, the numbers without the nuance, the percentages without the personality, the figures without the fun…you get the idea. My desire is to get you closer to people in my age group, as we share their stories, insights and concerns. I want to bring my generation to life through the pages of this blog.

Over the next few weeks the blog will work in tandem with the podcast as we look at Marketing to Women 2.0. In the podcast series, Lisa provides a fresh take on established truths about women consumers by showing them through the lens of today’s technology savvy, connected woman.

On the Connected Generation blog, I’ll share my perspective on how these traits are being lived out in fresh ways among young women. I’ll also be tapping into my network of other twenty-somethings around the country and globe to give you a backstage pass into the lives and minds of the influential change agents shaping the modern marketplace.

I hope you’ll join us and share what you’re learning from the young women in your life.
